introduction

Thinking about Romi -and a few friends who are on the process of moving out of their parents'- made me remember a very funny introduction: the first time I met the super of my former apt.

"Hi, my name is Pequeña Orquídea, I'm the owner of the apt xx. How do you do."
He answered to me: "Hi, Demetrio."
Of course I knew that was a first name. However, I was nervous and told him: "That's your surname. And your first name?"

Not exactly the best way to say hi for the very first time...

playing games

Baby...Ooh...
Even in my heart, I see
You're not being true to me
Deep within my soul, I feel
Nothing's like it used to be
Sometimes I wish I could
Turn back time
Impossible as it may seem
But I wish I could
So bad, baby
Quit playing games with my heart

Quit playing games with my heart
Before you tear us apart (with my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart
I should've known from the start
You know you've gotta stop (from my heart)
You're tearing us apart (my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart

I live my life the way
To keep you coming back to me
Everything I do is for you
So what is it that you can't see
Sometimes I wish I could
Turn back time
Impossible as it may seem
But I wish I could
So bad, baby you'd better quit playing games with my heart

Quit playing games with my heart
Before you tear us apart (with my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart
I should've known from the start
You know you've gotta stop (from my heart)
You're tearing us apart (my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart

Quit playing games
Baby, baby
The love that we had was so strong
Don't leave hangin' here forever
Oh baby, baby this is not a lie
Let's stop this tonight

Baby, ohh, quit playing games

Sometimes I wish I could
Turn back time
Impossible as it may seem
But I wish I could
So bad baby
Quit playing games with my heart

Quit playing games with my heart
Before you tear us apart (with my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart
I should've know from the start
You know you've gotta stop (from my heart)
You're tearing us apart (my heart)
Quit playing games with my heart
Quit playing games

Don't you miss those old times?

kiss

Abby's great post:

The first time I met him face-to-face I wanted to kiss him.

Actually, I had wanted to kiss him for some weeks; each conversation we had over email, IM, or Skype increased my desire, so that by the time I finally saw him in the flesh I was almost craven with my need to feel his lips against mine.

Ever present in my mind, though, was that the feeling might not be mutual: how can you know if there’s real chemistry until you meet offline? Not to mention, of course, the fact that he’d recently learned of my Girl with a One Track Mind infamy, and I was anxious to show him another side of me, so that he would be getting to know me, Zoe, not the obsessed-with-shagging ‘notorious’ sex diarist.

But I still wanted to kiss him, god how I wanted that.

I had a meeting in town and we agreed to meet up after that for coffee. My meeting finished early and I sat, nervously adjusting my skirt, in a coffee shop. I had partly dressed for my meeting and partly dressed for our date and struggled to find clothing that was appropriate for both. How to appear professional at a business meeting and sexy – but not too sexy – at a daytime date? I mentioned this to him over IM and he seemed shocked: had I not heard of the film Secretary? he asked. When he said that, I smiled inwardly and was reminded of a long-ago conversation I’d had with my friend Badman, about how one should test out people’s openness about sex and kink, by asking them if they’d seen Secretary. So I opted for the Maggie Gyllenhaal look of a fitted white shirt, black pencil skirt, and black peep-toe heels, and hoped that he’d like what he saw.

I waited for him to arrive and tried to catch up with work on my laptop, becoming so immersed in what I was doing that I didn’t see him until he was standing right in front of me. He was dressed – as he always is – sharply, a smart pressed grey jacket just covering a black shirt, and his Vans sneakers matching both the colour of his jacket and the salt and pepper of his hair. On his face was a huge grin, and instantly all my anxiety and worry disappeared into the air.

I jumped to my feet and our smiles matched as we each mouthed a quiet ‘hi’ amongst the hubbub of the coffee shop. We both simultaneously reached out into an embrace and we stood there a moment, our arms wrapped around each other, my face buried into his neck. I was faintly aware of the length of time we were intertwined, and how closely our bodies were pressed against the other – it was very intimate for such a public place – but I didn’t care. All I wanted to do was breathe in the delicious aroma of his skin and feel the curves of his body against mine.

At some point, we both pulled back, slightly, and then before there was time for me to question it, or become anxious or succumb to nerves, he leaned in towards me and pressed his lips against mine and the kiss I had been waiting for, been wanting so badly, was happening. The anticipation had been building for some weeks and now finally, in one swift moment, it was here.

His kiss made me tremble, as I thought it might. With the gentle but firm pressure of his lips on my mouth, I felt electricity run through me: my whole body felt like it was tingling. More specifically, though, was the throb between my legs that his kiss had elicited: it was as if my pussy had a pulse of its own; a surging blood supply; a separate beating heart. Kissing him made my entire body feel alive and I wanted to greedily devour his lips, his tongue, and his breath like each was oxygen energising me.

We spent much of the date continuing to kiss, stopping only briefly for coffee, cake and of course conversation. Our “quick coffee” turned into a ten-hour date, and neither of us wished for it to end. It was so natural, so easy and relaxed, and with him, the hours went by like minutes.

I confessed to him, a few weeks later, just how turned on I had become, through those kisses. That sitting there, in that café, with his lips against mine, had left me so horny that I wanted to fuck him then and there. I described to him how, after some hours had passed, I had gone to the toilet and my knickers were so wet from my desire for him that I had to peel them off me before I could remove them.

His kisses still do that: whenever he places his mouth on mine, my pussy almost has a Pavlovian response, and I instantly get wet. “Your lips make my lips throb”, I informed him recently, to which he grinned, mischievously, and kissed me some more.

But besides the horniness that his kisses inspire, they now affect something else much deeper, and more pronounced, in me: they make me feel like I am me; they make me feel like I am home.

oh my little girl

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Cant you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Enjoy the silence

domestícame

it's funny: I belong to a group that collects The Little Prince in different languages and that's Spanish in the title of this entry.

I don't know if I could take such a hobby.

oh, no, it wasn't a title that suggested something else... sorry if you got to this blog with a different idea in mind.

both sides

Her house was facing the river and also the city she loved.
Take your time to go there. It's amazing.

extreme measures

Not financial measures, not economic policies...
What I'm trying to tell you is that my surgeon measured my breasts (how bizarre though necessary job).
He said sorry and excuse me so many times that I felt completely overwhelmed... oh, well, he's a surgeon but also a young man.

and I won't tell you my measures, hehe. Not until I get my reduction.

caught you!

that's a game a friend of mine played with her pet.
In fact, it was sth like: caught your nose!

Can I play the same game with people? Oh, it'd be so much fun!!!

précis

Dustland fairytale beginin
Just another white trash
County kiss
Sixty one
Long brown hair and foolish eyes
Look just like you gone into some
Kind of slick chrome american prince
A blue jean serenade
Moon river what'd you do to be
But i don't believe you

Some cinderella in a party dress but
She was looking for a night gown
I saw the devil warping up his hands
Hes getting ready for the show down
I saw the minute that i turn away
I got my money on a pond tonight

Change came in disguised of revelation
Set his soul on fire
She said she'd always knew he'd come around
And the decades disappear like sinking
Ships we persevere god gives us hope
But we still fear
We don't know
The mind is poison castle in the sky
Sit stranded vandalized
The draw bridge is closing

Some cinderella in a party dress but
She was looking for a night gown
I saw the devil warping up his hands
Hes getting ready for the show down
I saw the ending were they turned the page
I threw my money and i ran away
Strait to the vally of the great divide

And were the dreams roll high
And were the wind dont blow
Out here the good girls die
And the sky wont snow
Out here the bird don't sing
Out here the field don't grow
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the bell don't ring
Out here the good girls die

Now cinderella don't you go to sleep
Its such a bitter form of refuge
Ahh don't you know the kingdoms under siege
And everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in sixty-one
In the of the cadence in the young mans eyes
And were the dreams roll high

I can't describe it...

rien de rien

This is a song I learnt by heart when I began taking French classes 20 years ago:

Non, rien de rien, non, je ne regrette rien
ni le bien qu'on m'a fait, ni le mal
tout ca m'est bien egal
non, rien de rien, non, je ne regrette rien
c'est paye, balaye, oublie, je me fous du passe
Avec mes souvenirs j'ai allume le feu
mes shagrins, mes plaisirs,
car ma vie, car me joies
aujourd'hui ca commence avec toi

Well, I never acquired that "r" sound that she spelled in her language.
Have you watched the movie about her life?

coincidence

I see the numbers and I can't explain myself:

2 eights in my phone number
also 2 fours

at least every 5 minutes I need to write my passkey on one of the devices I use: 2 eights are right there on the screen.

I live on the 8th floor.

and I guess I never ever thought of that coincidence -until now-
and four is my lucky number, combined with eight.

ok, forget all about it, it's not a riddle, it's just coincidence! (should I buy a lottery ticket?!) (cliché to be inserted here concerning luck)

don't you

Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me

Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby

Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on

Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

Don't You Forget About me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About me

Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down

Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down

Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security

Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away

Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you call my name?

Do you remember that old movie? Well, I watched it again some time ago and it deeply moved me.

thought

it's not about you.
it's definitely about me.

(hope you can understand)

phrase to share

crystal clear!
Loved that phrase!

cliché

tout compte fait, en fin de compte... -sorry, back to English for a while- I cannot say exactly what I think... ("de tanto aparentar bondad, uno acaba por ser bueno", said Mr Dolina in a book). Have you heard of that book?
I can think of -at least- ten clichés in a row... how many can you think of?

La Rama de Salzburgo

Soon: starting a reading club... -both in English and Spanish- (hi girls, will you join me?).

strange-strange

for what is worth:
Mi dispiace devo andare via
ma sapevo che era una bugia
quanto tempo perso dietro a lui
che promette poi non cambia mai
strani amori mettono nei guai
ma in realtà siamo noi
e lo aspetti ad un telefono
litigando che sia libero
con il cuore nello stomaco
un gomitolo nell'angolo
lì da sola dentro un brivido
ma perché lui non c'è, e sono
strani amori che fanno crescere
e sorridere tra le lacrime
quante pagine, lì da scrivere
sogni e lividi da dividere
sono amori che spesso a quest'età
si confondono dentro a quest'anima
che s'interroga senza decidere
se è un amore che fa per noi
e quante notti perse a piangere
rileggendo quelle lettere
che non riesci più a buttare via
dal labirinto della nostalgia
grandi amori che finiscono
ma perché restano, nel cuore
strani amori che vanno e vengono
nei pensieri che li nascondono
storie vere che ci appartengono
ma si lasciano come noi
strani amori fragili,
prigioneri liberi
strani amori mettono nei guai
ma in realtà siamo noi
(coro)
strani amore che spesso a questa età
si confondono dentro l'anima
strani amori che mettono nei guai
ma si perdono come noi
strani amori che vanno e vengono
storie vere che ci appartengono
strani amori fragili,
prigioneri liberi
strani amori che non sanno vivere
e si perdono dentro noi
mi dispiace devo andare via
questa volta l'ho promesso a me
perché ho voglia di un amore vero
senza te

I'm gonna keep to these songs-mood for a while, the '80s-90's have come back! (stay with me, guys!)

Winter

The great thing about winter is that you can stay at home with any excuse:

1) It's cold/windy/rainy/stormy/cloudy...
2) I'm cold/windy/rainy/stormy/cloudy (kidding, sorry)...
3) It's nice to have a cup of tea/coffee/ cocoa/mate/ any sort of warm beverage...
4) You have some spare time to complain about the weather (as usual)...
5) I caught a/n cold/angina/ I'm sneezing all the time/ My allergies won't let me go out...
6) I rented that old movie I wanted to see years ago...
7) My dog caught cold...
8) My cat is sneezing...
9) It's a great day to cook...
10) Oh, I'd like to stay in bed all day long...

old song comeback

Listening old songs on radio shows is a blast when you wake up in a sunny day morning and dream of a different life...

ALWAYS (CROSSROAD)

This romeo is bleeding, but you can't see his blood
Its nothing but some feelings, that this old dog kicked up
Its been raining since you left me, now I'm drowning in the flood
You see I've always been a fighter, but without you, I give up

Now I can't sing a love song, like the way its meant to be
Well, I guess I'm not that good anymore
But baby, thats just me

And I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there, forever and a day - Always

I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and the words don't rhyme
I know when I die, you'll be on my mind
And I love you - Always

Now your pictures that you left behind
Are just memories of a different life
Some that made us laugh, some that made us cry
One that made you have to say goodbye
What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair
Touch your lips, to hold you near
When you say your prayers, try to understand
I've made mistakes, I'm just a man

When he holds you close, when he pulls you near
When he says the words you've been needing to hear
I wish I was him, that those words were mine
To say to you till the end of time

And I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there, forever and a day - Always

If you told me to cry for you, I could
If you told me to die for you, I would
Take a look at my face, there's no price I won't pay
To say these words to you

Well, there aint no luck, in this loaded dice
But baby if you give me just one more try
We can pack up our old dreams and our old lives
We'll find a place where the sun still shines

Yeah and I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there, forever and a day - Always

I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and the words don't rhyme
I know when I die, you'll be on my mind
And I love you - Always
Always ...

Hey, I wouldn't mind somebody like Jon in my life... have you heard his new songs? (oh, so nice when he sings rock & pop while he forgets the roll thing)

singing old songs

Don't you love singing aloud when you feel like doing so?

lyrics
Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now.
Don't be ashamed to cry,
let me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side too.
When the night falls on you,
you don't know what to do,
Nothing you confess
could make me love you less
I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you,
won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
So, if you're mad get mad,
don't hold it all inside,
Come on and talk to me now.
And hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
But I'm a lot like you.
When you're standing at the crossroads,
don't know which path to choose,
Let me come along,
cause even if your wrong
I'll stand by you, I'll stand by you,
won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
Take me into your darkest hour,
and I'll never desert you.
I'll stand by you.
And when, when the night falls on you baby,
you're feeling all alone,
You won't be on your own,
I'll stand by you. I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you, won't let nobody hurt you.
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
and I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you.

Lyrics
It's amazing
How you can speak
Right to my heart
Without saying a word,
You can light up the dark
Try as I may
I could never explain
What I hear when
You don't say a thing

The smile on your face
Lets me know
That you need me
There's a truth
In your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says
You'll catch me
Whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all

All day long
I can hear people
Talking out loud
But when you hold me near
You drown out the crowd
(The crowd)
Try as they may
They can never define
What's been said
Between your
Heart and mine

You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all
You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all

The smile on your face
The truth in your eyes
The touch of your hand
Let's me know
That you need me

You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all
You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all

The smile on your face
The truth in your eyes
The touch of your hand
Let's me know
That you need me

You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all
You say it best
When you say
Nothing at all

rush

No, no pude entrar rápidamente. No, no estaba distraída. No, yo no iba a pasear.

strange hotel names

If I read about goblins one more time, I'll go crazy [believe me].
Why is it that hotels in small villages by the sea have names connected to magical elements???

letter

Dear Sir or Madam

I would like to complain about the room rate you have just sent to me. I am shock to see that low season is no longer low as prices have extremely increased.

I will not stay at your hotel and I really hope you survive the financial crisis. If you happen to see a guest at your facilities, let him/her know he/she has completely lost his/her mind.

Yours truly

something like that

Si no querés hacer nada, no invites gente a tu casa.

piece of advice on nutrition

A standard day in my life is connected to language. I received the do's and dont's regarding nutrition from my local gym:

thoughts about He's just not that into you

Applying linguistics to my life has been a major topic (knowing the reason why somebody says something or why there's a wall of silence) these days, but it also contributed that I watched the film He's just not that into you. Then, I realized: I'm hopeless. There's nothing I can do to right something that went wrong so wrong...

The film makes you think about all the things that could have possibly gone in the wrong direction. And guess what, I have taken all the wrong turns...

Some funny quotes from the film:
Alex: You're my exception.

Gigi: A girl will never forget the first boy she ever likes.

Gigi: We are all programmed to believe that if a guy acts like a total jerk that means he likes you.

Beth: I just need you to stop being nice to me unless your gonna marry me.

Beth: Am I... will I be Al Pacino in this scenario?

Gigi: How stupid is it that a girl has to wait for a guy's call anyway, right?

Mary: I had this guy leave me a voicemail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies.
Mary: It's exhausting.

Gigi: Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up. If a guy punches you he likes you. Never try to trim your own bangs and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. Every movie we see, Every story we're told implores us to wait for it, the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule. But sometimes we're so focused on finding our happy ending we don't learn how to read the signs. How to tell from the ones who want us and the ones who don't, the ones who will stay and the ones who will leave. And maybe a happy ending doesn't include a guy, maybe... it's you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is... just... moving on. Or maybe the happy ending is this, knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment you never gave up hope.

Gigi: I would rather be like that, then be like you.
Alex: Excuse me? What's that supposed to mean?
Gigi: I may dissect each little thing and put myself out there so much but at least that means that I still care. Oh! You've think you won because women are expendable to you. You may not get hurt or make an ass of yourself that way but you don't fall in love that way either. You have not won. You're alone. I may do a lot of stupid shit but I'm still a lot closer to love than you are.

Anna: You have an ass that makes me wanna dry hump!
Ben: Did you just say 'Dry hump'?
Anna: Yep.
Ben: I think I just fell in love.

5 yr. old Girl: Why did you do that?
6 yr. old Boy: Because you smell like dog poo.

Ben: You may be the best friend I've ever had.

Alex: He is not interested.

Janine: He's totally gonna call.

Neil: I don't wanna be with anybody else, I just wanna be with Beth.

Mary: What if you meet the love of your life, are you supposed to let them pass you by?

Alex: I really gotta go to bed.
Gigi: Is that an invitation?
Alex: What?
Gigi: Oh god, That was cheesy.

Mother: Connie, do you know why that little boy did those things? Because he likes you.

Mary: He MySpaced me.
Nathan: Ouch!
Mary: Oh.
Joshua: Oh girl I don't know about that... My trampy little sister says MySpace is the new booty call.

Gigi: I think I've figured it out. Remember when I went out with that notary public and he cheated on me and then Anastasia from upstairs told me about how her boyfriend cheated on her in the beginning then he totally changed and now they're married and crazy in love?
Beth: I thought that guy was a process server.
Gigi: No notary. Anyway my point is, Anastasia is the exception, not the rule. We have to stop listening to these stories because they rule is most guys who cheat on you up front don't really care about you very much.
Janine: Ok.
Gigi: Ok, Ok. Exhibit A. Chad the drummer who lived in a storage space. He only used me for rides and yet I continued to stalk him for most of 1998. Then oh, um, there was Don, that broke up with me every Friday so that he could have his weekends free. I was delusional about that relationship. I used to refer to him as my husband to random people, like my dental hygienist. Anyway, all my friends used to tell me about how things might work out with these dipsticks because they knew someone, who knew someone, who dated a dipstick just like mine. That girl ended up getting married and living happily ever after. That the exception and we're not the exception we're the rule.

Alex: If a guy treats you like he doesn't give a sh*t, it's because he doesn't give a shit.

Gigi: Maybe his grandma died or maybe he lost my number or is out of town or got hit by a cab...
Alex: Or maybe he is not interested in seeing you again.

Gigi: Hey sorry to bug you again! Uh quick question.
Alex: What's going on?
Gigi: Ok I'm making out with this guy, PG stuff. but he mentions he's going out of town so he's gonna be out of touch.
Alex: Run.
Gigi: But maybe he is going out of town.
Alex: To where? New Guinea? Where's he gonna be that he's gonna be out of touch?
Gigi: Opens bathroom door - Where are you going out of town to again?
Gigi: Pittsburgh
Alex: Run.
Gigi: So what now I'm just supposed to turn from every guy who doesn't like me?
Alex: Uh. Yeah!
Gigi: There's not gonna be anybody left.

Alex: If a guy doesn't call you, he doesn't want to call you.

Gigi: Hey Conor, It's GiGi, I just thought that I hadn't heard from you, and I mean how stupid is it taht a girl has to wait for a guy's call anyway, right? Cause we're all equal right? more than equal. more women are accepted into law school now then men. Call me, oh this is GiGi, call me.

Gigi: Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up: if a boy punches you he likes you, never try to trim your own bangs, and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. every movie we see, every story we're told implores us to wait for it: the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule. but sometimes we're so focused on finding our happy ending we don't learn how to read the signs. how to tell the ones who want us from the ones who don't, the ones who will stay and the ones who will leave. and maybe a happy ending doesn't include a guy, maybe it's you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. maybe the happy ending is just moving on. or maybe the happy ending is this: knowing after all the unreturned phone calls and broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment... you never gave up hope.

Alex: Hey, Kelli Ann. Uh, did I get any calls?
Kelli Ann: Since you asked me 11 mins ago, no, not a lot of phone traffic.
Alex: [obsessively checks phone for signal]
Kelli Ann: Oh, my God.
Alex: What?
Kelli Ann: What's her name?
Alex: Who?
Kelli Ann: The girl... Alex.
Alex: There's no girl.
Kelli Ann: You can't hide it, man. I know strung out, and YOU are strung out.
Alex: Please.
Kelli Ann: This is amazing. You can't focus. Right? Jumping every time your phone rings. Checking your e-mail a hundred times a day. Wishing you could write songs.
Alex: [laughs]
Kelli Ann: No. Feeling the need to bring up her name in random conversations. It's always the same and it has happened to you, my friend.
Alex: Shit.
Kelli Ann: Welcome to my world, asshole. Let me get the door.

African Woman #1: I'm sure he just forgot your hut number!
African Woman #2: Or was eaten by a lion.
African Woman #3: You guys are awesome!

what big teeth you've got!

I was surprised: Ice Age III in the cinemas in July!!! I know this sort of films are meant for children, but, hey, I don't care...

lending material

Si vas a fingir, mentime
http://elerlich.com/momentito/2008/08/si_vas_a_fingir_mentime.php#more

clouds

I took up a new hobby: taking pictures of clouds is good for my spirit! (and my mood)...

reloaded

March has begun and eventhough I'm busy, I think it's a wonderful month: kids attend school after their summer break, Autumn is around the corner, everybody is back from hollidays (no more excuses to be heard on the matter), I'm planning a getaway...

But, what still surprises me of this month is that I keep a record of some sort of weird comments in the street when I take my dog for a walk: I was congratulated by an old woman on my collecting my dog's number two. Then, a mother told a child that I was doing sth really disgusting (exactly the same action I was congratulated on). Later on, a friend of mine asked me if it was ok for me to do something like that...

It seems March brings some questions or comments... bring them on, I'm prepared...

Carnival

The great thing about Brazilians is that Carnival is part of their lives.
That's why I couldn't understand that their summer break ends before Carnival begins.
Isn't it a bit contradictory?

In Argentina, Carnival is also celebrated as well as in some other countries in South America. The most famous one takes place in Entre Rios (State). But, as that is the most important celebration of the year, children go back to school once Carnival season is over.

unforgettable songs

my all-time favourites:
Keep On Loving You by Reo Speedwagon
Don't Forget Me by Glass Tiger

it's an eighties' day, you know.

Oh Monday Oh

A week away from holls... the sun will shine all week long no matter what (oficially, it's no longer a sunny day)...
but my birthday on Monday (that seems to be a very hot day)... well, I'll try to make the most of it!!! (sorry if I take the day off, gals).

There are so many wishes to make when blowing out the candles tonight...

miracle

I know she's leaving the flat by the end of the month, but may be, may be she's leaving by mid January. If you could hear all the noise she makes (I bet she's kicking her furniture), you would agree with me.
So, no more waking up at 4 AM, it's a wonderful miracle!

in a voyager mood

My inspiration got lost yesterday. However, I discovered that some people wrote excellent posts about travelling in their blogs.
Memorable travel quotes are like messages found on the beach; beautiful, timeless, and read at just the right moment.

Editor’s Introduction - Tim Patterson: I’m typing on the deck of a hostel in a little Uruguayan surf town called Punta del Diablo. Travelers are chatting around me; the usual conversation about where they came from and where they’re going next. Down on the beach, surfers are catching the last waves of the day and men driving horse-drawn carts haul firewood into town.

In many ways this is an idyllic scene, but to be honest, for a while today I was feeling a bit tired and jaded about travel. When you’re on the road too long the spark of newness fades, and travel can feel like a long, pointless slog, a detour from loved ones and from life.

Then I started reading the quotes you’ll find below. Some made me laugh. Some made me wince.

But all of them rang true, and reminded me of why I travel: to learn and grow, to challenge myself, stretch my limits and foster an appreciation of both the world at large and the chair waiting in front of the woodstove back home.

I hope you’ll find similar inspiration in these quotes. Without further ado…

Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind - and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” - Mark Jenkins

renew yourself

Have you watched the old movie Blade Runner? The carousel thing was absolute brilliant.
Can we recreate the scene in real life settings? Imagine you could make things/people disappear just for the promise of a new life ahead...
2009 is a whole new topic to develop...

shots

Who likes getting shots?
I don't and I wonder why we chose our holls destination (this is my third and last shot, though in a 3-month time I'll have a new dose).
Thank God we are not going to Indonesia or Africa! (more shots are required to go there).

old resolutions almost in new year

New Year's resolutions: bringing back memories reading some old posts

peekaboo

Here I am, after Christmas trying to survive after so much food, presents, family visits and so on.
Oh boy, we're supposed to do it again next week.
I can't wait, really...
[btw: hollidays countdown has just begun]

Flower barrettes are on, my dears. All girls (and old bats) are wearing them.
What's next? All the garden up there?! A few branches, may be?

words and comparisons

The end of the year is round the corner. I think of how many words I'll be saying per minute every time I meet people to celebrate...
If I type as quickly as I speak, I should even think of meeting my friends when I'm working hard... my productivity will definitely increase!
In the case I don't drink, of course. Otherwise, no production should be expected.

treasure hunt

If you could help me find my Christmas tree, it would me much appreciated. Oh, by the way, add my Christmas list to the search.
Definitely, my spirit isn't here, though I love this season.

chickened out

Double ups. Supposedly, I had a test (well, translators take courses on everything all the time). I mean, I had it. But as I chickened out, I left it for Feb.
A friend of mine called me to ask me why I texted her that I was not taking the text. My answer? Blame it on the quente day! (well, I knew that I didn't study as much as required to pass the test).
See? At least I was a self-conscious chicken girl.

almost ready to have tea?

My mum and my auntie are on their way to see how the painter's thing ended up in my flat!
I asked them to bring their pastry, right? (I'm in the mood for a nap myself instead of tea!).
I promise I'll be a nice girl... if they don't stay long! [otherwise, I´ll show them my super natural yawn].
I'm serious about it.

Friday I'm not in love

Considering the facts:
- flat painted by 2 painters who didn't do their job in the proper way.
- still many things to be cleaned and ordered.
- a lot of pending work for the weekend.
- plus [the same] long weekend will be spent doing things at home instead of sunbathing and meeting with friends.

Oh no, I'm certainly not in love today. Even watching my dog sleep like the Sleeping Beauty with a cushion under her head and a warm blanket covering her bad back makes me feel jealous of her princess life (did I mention that I get up at 7Am everyday?!). One Piña Colada for her and a double Diet Coke with cafeine on the rocks for me, pleeeease!
BTW: Did I mention that the weather is more than perfect to stroll along Puerto Madero? And am I supposed to set the Xmas tree on Monday? [Am I supposed to find it?] I love Xmas, but this December seems to be too short this year...

paradoja

finding the differences

(taken from here)
If someone in America asks you if you would like a pig in a blanket, it will save a lot of embarrassment if you know they are offering you a sausage roll.
Many of us go on holiday to the US confident we will have none of the language problems experienced in other countries.
OK, we all known they call petrol "gas" and they walk on the "sidewalk" rather than the pavement and they have "vacations" rather than holidays, trousers are called "pants" and so on.
But a look at the words Americans use for everyday food and drink items makes me wonder if a British-American phrase book would be essential after all.
For instance, they call an avocado an alligator pear, an aubergine an eggplant – and if you want mangetout, you'll have to ask for snow peas.
Fish fingers become fishsticks, prawns are shrimps, a beefburger is a hamburger, a gammon steak a ham steak, blueberries are huckleberries and corn is maize.
And can you guess what a rutabaga is? It's what we call a swede. (The American word is derived from the Swedish word rotabagge, which means turnip).
Meanwhile, if you want a sorbet, ask for a sherbet. How about some treacle... just ask for molasses. Gherkins are pickles, spring onions are known as scallions and if you want semi-skimmed milk, you'll have to ask for "low-fat" or "2 per cent".
It's just as difficult for children with ice lollies called popsicles, sweets called candy, candy floss known as cotton candy, biscuits called cookies and fairy cakes are cup cakes.
And how about this: If you want jam, you have to ask for jelly. And if you actually want jelly, you have to ask for "jello". Yes, it's all a trifle confusing...
Icing is known as frosting, an off-licence is called a liquor store, if you want something grilled, you must ask for it to be broiled, and in the US, food comes in cans, not tins.
And just in case that lot hasn't put you off going shopping in the States, take a look at these complete opposites: A catfish is a dogfish; chicory is known as endive and, surprise, surprise, endive is called chicory.
All this to worry about on top of getting the pronunciation and spelling right. Which reminds me of the American at a job interview in England who is asked to spell the word "coffee" – and is told the job is his if he gets just one letter correct.
The American ponders for a while before answering slowly: "K - A - W - P - H - Y".

nostalgic mood

Incancellabile (Laura Pausini)
A volte mi domando se,
Vivrei lo stesso senza te,
Se ti saprei dimenticare.
Ma passa un attimo e tu sei,
Sei tutto quello che vorrei
Incancellabile oramai!
Sembrava un'altra storia che,
Il tempo porta via con se,
Tu non lasciarmi mai!
Tu non lasciarmi!
E più mi manchi, più tu stai
Al centro dei pensieri miei
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Perché oramai sarai
Incancellabile.
Con la tua voce, l'allegria
Che dentro me non va più via
Come un tatuaggio sulla pelle.
Ti vedo dentro gli occhi suoi,
Ti cerco quando non ci sei
Sulle mie labbra sento la voglia
Che ho di te.
Così profondamente mio
Non ho mai avuto niente io
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Tu non lasciarmi.
E più ti guardo e più lo sai
Di te io m'innamorerei
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Tu non lasciarmi,
Non farlo mai perché.
Se guardo il cielo
Io sento che sarai
Incancellabile oramai oh no!
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Tu non lasciarmi.
Incancellabile tu sei
Nei miei respiri e i giorni miei
Tu non lasciarmi mai.
E si fa grande dentro me
Questo bisogno che ho di te
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Tu non lasciarmi
Tu non lasciarmi
Tu non lasciarmi
Oh no.
E più mi manchi e più tu sei
Al centro dei pensieri miei
Tu non lasciarmi mai
Tu non lasciarmi mai.
Tu non lasciarmi
Da sola senza te
Ora e per sempre
Resterai dentro
I miei occhi
Incancellabile.
