pitch

A well-known local starlet entered the bakery ten seconds before I did. And forgot to take a number. But of course I didn't pay so much attention to that, but to the fact that a man was kind enough to let her take his place in the queue. Which meant that she took my place, and I was in a hurry (and surely, the man was not kind, but interested in the girl).
All the shop assistants behind the counter looked surprised to see her there. One of them even took a good look at her. It was the highlight of the day for those girls. That, and the gossip they'd spread that the starlet didn't speak in a normal voice, but in a high-pitch one.
